So. I've been thinking and reflecting a lot about politics, especially this up and coming election season. I've also reflected on what I believe...or better yet...what my eclectic collection of beliefs...i'm pro-life, anti-death penalty, supportive of gay marriage, pro-NRA, pro-affirmative action, pro-union, thinks global warming is THE "moral issue" of our generation. I also believe that the government is becoming too "church-run." But yet, government is also not the solution to most of our problems...especially in the fields of poverty relief. What does that make me? Republican? Democrat? Independent? I think--what Chris Rock said about politics is true. I'm paraphrasing now, but I think he said something along the lines that we should all think independently and that nobody should tow the party line on every issue. I don't. If we ever abandoned the two-party system, I would be on the bandwagon. But that's what pains me...we haven't. So, what that means is that people like me (and I don't think it's just me...) pick one side or another to vote for. People like me who want to run pick either democrat or republican...because that's almost the only way you can win. That's kind of frustrating.
So, as I think--I will continue to identify as an "Independent, Free-Thinking Republican." I won't tow the party line...but yeah.

You may be Lost in the Wilderness, but you are certainly NOT alone! I think many people feel as you do, and in fact, grassroots independents are organizing, coming together to speak out against partisanship and for political reform so that the voices of ordinary people can be heard.
